GERMAN PANEL:

We are very happy to present a German panel with the historic first movers in Germany: We have Jäki Eldorado Germany s first Punk who claimed to be Mr. Punkrock Number 1 after he attacked Iggy Pop and tried to bite his knee. We will open our Conference with Jäki and will ask him what the hell he was thinking here if there was any thinking behind it. // We have Wolfgang Büld who had the movie 'Punk In London' with ultra rare live footage of The Clash and The Adverts. Wolfgang had movies like 'Brennende Langeweile' 'Ich Geb Gas' und 'Manta, Manta' but he is always remembered for his early attempt to present the New Wave: Punk. We will ask him how difficult it was to shoot this low to no-budget movie and where he was able to film our Punk-Heroes on Tour. // Lead gitarrist and Singer for Germany's first Punk-Band 'Male' is in the house. We're happy to announce a short and exquisite Acoustic Set of Punk-Songs and an Interview on supporting The Clash at Dusseldorfs Philipshalle in May 1980. Stefan Schwaab sung the Album title 'Zensur & Zensur' and he Jurgen wrote most of the Songs for an Album that til today is one of Germany s best Punk Longplayers // We will use the stage of the Conference to give everybody an overview on all the activities we bundled under the name: DAS PUNK MUSEUM It's people like Florian Siebert und ​Peter Marszalek​ who are able to give Rudi Esch the chance to achieve the well desired Punk Museum in a virtual and immersive experience. They built a 3D-Animation the will be stunning present on the screen at the Conference. Jurgen Weber is the Artist who came up with the perfect 1:18 Model of the old R Hof and he will show the iconic places incl his Installation for the ELECTRI_CITY Conference 2025. You will be thrilled !! If you like it Punk !!

This talk will be in German -- all the other talks will be in English and will take place as usual in the Box of the me and all hotel.

John Robb, musician, broadcaster, and one of Britain’s most distinctive cultural commentators, is the author of the acclaimed Punk: An Oral History and the newly released Goth: A History. His work captures the energy, voices, and contradictions of two of the most influential movements in modern music and style. With Robb’s unique blend of lived experience and sharp analysis, this talk offers a journey from punk’s explosive beginnings to goth’s dark, enduring creativity. 'GOTH' will be available in English and German.

Chris Musto – Drums & Design

Chris Musto is both a drummer and a designer — a rare figure whose career bridges sound and image. As a musician, he has performed with Glen Matlock, Johnny Thunders, and Joe Strummer, placing him at the core of punk’s unfolding history. As a designer, he has shaped the visual culture of popular music, contributing to iconic works including The Rolling Stones’ 7" Miss You. Chris personally did the cut outs on their iconic album Some Girls, as well as the razor sharp vinyl record design for Queen’s Longplayer Jazz. His career offers a unique perspective on how performance and design together define the legacy of popular culture.

 

Damian O'Neill – The Undertones

Damian O’Neill, guitarist and songwriter with The Undertones, joins us in Düsseldorf for a very special talk that is hosted by his good friend Vom Ritchie. Emerging from Derry in the late 1970s, The Undertones were among the earliest punk groups to capture the raw immediacy of the movement — blending the energy of London’s Clash and Damned with their own sharp, melodic edge.

 

Terry Chimes – Career opportunities with The Clash & Beyond

The original drummer of The Clash, Terry Chimes, laid down the beat for the explosive first album of The Only Band That Matters which became the ultimate soundtrack to Punk’s first wave. Terry provided the backbone for this groundbreaking debut album and helped forming Punk’s most defining statement.

 

Marco Pirroni – Adam and the Ants

Marco Pirroni has been at the heart of British punk and post-punk from the very beginning. Connected to Malcolm McLaren’s legendary shop SEX and a close friend of style icon Jordan Mooney, Pirroni was part of the original London punk scene way before joining Adam and the Ants.
With Pirroni’s razor-sharp guitar lines, the Ants reinvented themselves, storming the charts with iconic hits such as 'Kings of the Wild Frontier", 'Antmusic' and 'Stand and Deliver'. His playing combined punk attitude with a love of Roxy Music’s glamour and art-rock edge, helping to shape a sound and style that defined the Eighties.

 

DJ Scratchy – The Clash’s Tour DJ

Known to fans worldwide as DJ Scratchy, Barry Myers was the on-stage DJ for The Clash during their legendary 1978–79 tours. Night after night, Scratchy set the tone before the band came on — dropping punk, reggae, ska, and rock’n’roll into a furious mix that captured the spirit of the era.

After the Conference we will have a special Aftershow party at the Sky Bar on the 11th floor of the Me and All Hotel. There will be food and drinks over the skyline of Dusseldorf and we asked Scratchy, - “the only DJ that ever mattered to us” - to play all these global sounds that fuelled Londons energy for us again. Barry always continued to spin his records with the same passion and eclectic spirit that once electrified the Clash audiences across the world when DJ Scratchy became as much part of the show as the band itself. Enjoy !!

Die ELECTRI_CITY Conference findet in diesem Jahr zum 11. Mal in Düsseldorf statt, und wir gehen zurück zu den Anfängen des Punk in London. Wir erwarten zahlreiche Gäste der musikalischen Geburtsstunde des Punk und im Rahmen der ELECTRI_CITY Conference wird es Talks, Buchpräsentationen und Acoustic-Sets sowie ein DJ-Set aus dem direkten The Clash-Umfeld geben.

DEUTSCHES PANEL:

Wir freuen uns sehr, ein deutsches Panel mit den historischen Wegbereitern des Punk in Deutschland präsentieren zu können:

Wir haben Jäki Eldorado, Deutschlands ersten Punk, der sich selbst zum Punkrocker-Nummer 1 erklärte, nachdem er Iggy Pop angriff und versuchte, ihm ins Knie zu beißen. Wir eröffnen unsere Konferenz mit Jäki und fragen ihn, was zur Hölle er sich damals dabei eigentlich gedacht hat – falls er überhaupt schon gedacht hat.

Wir haben Wolfgang Büld, der mit dem Film 'Punk in London' ultra-rares Live-Footage von The Clash und The Adverts zeigte. Wolfgang drehte auch Filme wie Brennende Langeweile, Ich geb Gas und Manta, Manta – doch in Erinnerung bleibt vor allem sein früher Versuch, den New Wave und den Punk filmisch darzustellen. Wir fragen ihn, wie schwierig es war, diesen Low- bis No-Budget-Film zu drehen – und wie er es geschafft hat, unsere Punk-Helden auf Tour zu filmen.

Der Leadgitarrist und Sänger von Deutschlands erster Punkband Male ist mit dabei. Wir freuen uns auf ein kurzes, aber exquisites Akustik-Set mit Punk-Songs – und ein Interview über ihren Support-Gig für The Clash in der Düsseldorfer Philipshalle im Mai 1980. Stefan Schwaab sang den Albumtitel Zensur & Zensur, und mit Jürgen schrieb er die meisten Songs für ein Album, das bis heute als eines der besten deutschen Punk-Longplayer gilt.

Wir nutzen die Bühne der Konferenz auch, um einen Überblick über alle Aktivitäten zu geben, die wir unter dem Namen DAS PUNK MUSEUM bündeln.

Es sind Leute wie Florian Siebert und Peter Marszalek, die Rudi Esch die Möglichkeit geben, das lang ersehnte Punk-Museum als virtuelle und immersive Erfahrung Wirklichkeit werden zu lassen. Wir haben eine 3D-Animation gebaut, die auf der Konferenz eindrucksvoll auf der Leinwand präsentiert wird.

Jürgen Weber ist der Künstler, der das perfekte 1:18 Modell des alten Ratinger Hofs gebaut hat – er zeigt ikonische Orte, inklusive seiner Installation für die ELECTRI_CITY Conference 2025.

John Robb – GOTH

John Robb, Musiker, Moderator und einer der markantesten Kulturkommentatoren Großbritanniens, ist Autor des gefeierten Buchs Punk: An Oral History sowie des brandneuen Titels Goth: A History.

Seine Werke fangen die Energie, Stimmen und Widersprüche zweier der einflussreichsten Bewegungen der modernen Musik- und Stilgeschichte ein.

Mit Robbs einzigartiger Mischung aus gelebter Erfahrung und scharfer Analyse bietet dieser Vortrag eine Reise von den explosiven Anfängen des Punk bis zur düsteren, langlebigen Kreativität der Goth-Szene.

Chris Musto ist ein echtes Ausnahmetalent: Er ist nicht nur Schlagzeuger, sondern auch Designer – und verbindet damit auf einzigartige Weise Klang und Bild. Als Musiker stand er mit Größen wie Glen Matlock, Johnny Thunders und Joe Strummer auf der Bühne und war damit mitten drin in der Entstehungsgeschichte des Punk. Als Designer wiederum hat er die visuelle Kultur der Popmusik entscheidend mitgeprägt: Er arbeitete an ikonischen Projekten wie der Rolling-Stones-Single Miss You, schnitt höchstpersönlich die berühmten Ausschnitte des Albums Some Girls und entwarf das Vinyl-Design für Queens Longplayer Jazz. Seine Karriere eröffnet einen ganz besonderen Blick darauf, wie Musik nicht nur gehört, sondern auch gesehen und erlebt wird – und wie Performance und Gestaltung zusammen das Vermächtnis der Popkultur formen.

 

Damian O'Neill – The Undertones

Damian O’Neill, Gitarrist und Songwriter der Undertones, kommt für ein ganz besonderes Gespräch nach Düsseldorf, moderiert von seinem guten Freund Vom Ritchie. Die Undertones entstanden Ende der 1970er Jahre in Derry und gehörten zu den ersten Punkbands, die die rohe Unmittelbarkeit der Bewegung einfingen – sie kombinierten die Energie von Londons The Clash und The Damned mit ihrer eigenen scharfen, melodischen Note.

Terry Chimes, der Original-Schlagzeuger von The Clash, legte das Fundament für das explosive erste Album der „Only Band That Matters“, das zum ultimativen Soundtrack der ersten Punk-Welle wurde. Terry lieferte das Rückgrat für dieses bahnbrechende Debütalbum und trug maßgeblich dazu bei, das prägende Statement des Punk zu formen.

Marco Pirroni – Adam and the Ants

Marco Pirroni war von Anfang an eine Schlüsselfigur der britischen Punk- und Post-Punk-Szene. Verbunden mit Malcolm McLarens legendärem Laden SEX und enger Freund der Stil-Ikone Jordan Mooney, war Pirroni Teil der ursprünglichen Londoner Punk-Szene – lange bevor er Adam and the Ants beitrat.
Mit Pirronis messerscharfen Gitarrenriffs erfanden sich die Ants neu und stürmten mit ikonischen Hits wie „Kings of the Wild Frontier“, „Antmusic“ und „Stand and Deliver“ die Charts. Sein Spiel verband Punk-Attitüde mit der Glamour- und Art-Rock-Ästhetik von Roxy Music und half dabei, einen Sound und Stil zu prägen, der die Achtziger definierte.

Weltweit bekannt als DJ Scratchy, war Barry Myers der Tour-DJ von The Clash während ihrer legendären Tourneen 1978–79. Abend für Abend stimmte Scratchy das Publikum auf die Band ein – mit einem explosiven Mix aus Punk, Reggae, Ska und Rock’n’Roll, der den Geist der Ära perfekt einfing.

Nach der Konferenz findet eine besondere Aftershow-Party in der Sky Bar im 11. Stock des Me and All Hotels statt. Es wird Essen und Getränke über den Dächern Düsseldorfs geben – und wir haben Scratchy eingeladen – „der einzige DJ, der für uns je zählte“ – um erneut all die globalen Sounds aufzulegen, die Londons Energie damals befeuerten. Barry hat seine Platten immer mit derselben Leidenschaft und seinem eklektischen Geist aufgelegt, der einst das Clash-Publikum weltweit elektrisierte – denn DJ Scratchy war mehr als nur ein DJ, er war ein Teil der Show. Viel Spaß!
